Did you know that…?
- The average age of widowhood is 56 years old.
- In America, 76% of married women are eventually widowed
- On average, people who lose their spouses face a 25% cut in disposable income.
- More than 70% of the 4 million elderly poor people in the United States are women.
The issues that surround the loss of a spouse are numerous and complex. A very small sampling of these issues include helping children cope with a parent’s death, re-entering the workplace and eventually re-entering the world of dating, love and intimacy; as well as moving through a profoundly emotional period. As a widow, you have to find a way to accept and deal with conflicting and confusing emotions while being expected to “carry on and carry forward” by those around you. You also need to adjust financially and legally. Whether newly widowed or widowed for many years, you probably have questions that need answering and you may not know anyone who is adequately qualified to answer those questions.
Wildflower Group Tucson can help. Our group of professional women can answer questions in a wide variety of areas from finance, tax, and real estate to travel, health and wellness. Our education events offer the opportunity to gain knowledge that will help you make better, more informed decisions.
Sadly, sometimes losing a spouse results in losing friendships as well. Often couples you socialized with don’t know what to say and feel awkward around you, so they withdraw from you rather than continuing to include you in their social network. Networking at our Wildflower Wednesday Events can help you connect with other women who understand what you are going through. You may gain valuable insights from other women who have walked a similar path and even make some new friends.
